Benjamin Martin Family

          Benjamin Franklin Martin died at 3 A.M. June 24, 1923, at the Baptist Hospital.  Benjamin was a longtime resident of Dentsville, one of eight children of Alvin Jonathan Martin (1854-1927) and Mallie Watson Martin (1852-1936). Benjamin Franklin Martin, Sr. born in 1885 was buried in Rehoboth Methodist Church located on Two Notch Road in Dentsville. Benjamin was married to Addie Mae Shull (1883-1970) in 1906. Benjamin and Addie's children included: Alonzo Owens Martin (1906-1972) Ruby Gertrude Martin (1909-2003) Pearl Martin (1911-1987) Mattie Louise Martin (1913-1981) Enoch Smith Martin (1915-1979) Gladys Martin (1917-2008) Alma Mary Martin (1918-2001) Benjamin Franklin Martin, Jr. (1923-2006) Mabel Martin ???? Pontiac Man Shot Looking for Still

The photo is from 1937. At approximately 6:30 pm on the night of February 19, 1946, Wesley Brazell age 25 living in the Pontiac area was helping federal and county officers look for a moonshine still in Pontiac. During the search he was shot in his right arm and left leg. The unknow gunman shot Mr. Brazell with a shotgun and was still at large, there was no word if a still was located but it was reported that Mr. Brazell was taken to Columbia Hospital where he was being treated. It was said his injuries were not serious.  The shooting took place near Happy Top Church which was located between Dentsville and Pontiac. Deputy Sheriff's Thomas R. Scott and Wade H. Rawlinson of the Richland County Sheriff Department along with Federal officers P.H. Thornton, S.S. Sligh and Paul Y. Little from the Federal Alcohol Tax unit were investigating the shooting along with searching for the unknown gunman.
