Pontiac Man Shot Looking for Still
At approximately 6:30 pm on the night of February 19, 1946, Wesley Brazell age 25 living in the Pontiac area was helping federal and county officers look for a moonshine still in Pontiac. During the search he was shot in his right arm and left leg. The unknow gunman shot Mr. Brazell with a shotgun and was still at large, there was no word if a still was located but it was reported that Mr. Brazell was taken to Columbia Hospital where he was being treated. It was said his injuries were not serious.
The shooting took place near Happy Top Church which was located between Dentsville and Pontiac. Deputy Sheriff's Thomas R. Scott and Wade H. Rawlinson of the Richland County Sheriff Department along with Federal officers P.H. Thornton, S.S. Sligh and Paul Y. Little from the Federal Alcohol Tax unit were investigating the shooting along with searching for the unknown gunman.
